Popular jerky treats soon to be back on shelves!
Last year, a nationwide recall was issued on the popular Nestlé Purina & Del Monte brand Waggin Tail jerky treats! The recall was issued after hundreds of animal deaths & thousands of illnesses were linked back to these jerky treats! Nearly 600 pets, mainly dogs died & 4500 were sickened after consuming chicken, duck & sweet potatoe products all made in China.
Ways you can keep your pet safe? Check the back of the product you are buying and look to see where it is made, or where it is a product of. Make sure its made in, or a product of, the United States.

3 Nuns give a Senior Pit Bull a new home!!
Three nuns from Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine adopted the 9-year-old dog named Remi from Hi Tor Animal Care Center which is in Pomona, NY
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, signed legislation known as Dusty's Law, which gives extra legal protections to guide dogs. Dusty's Law is named after a 9 month old German Shepherd who was training to be a guide dog in 2010.
During this time, another dog attacked him, he required 100 stitches, lost some of his teeth and became so emotionally traumatized from the incident that they couldn't keep him in the program. Dusty's trainer, Roger Woodhour, recently told a New Jersey news site that almost half of all guide dogs are attacked by other animals.
Prior Dusty's Law, violence against a guide dog wouldn't be treated as a criminal offense; it would be referred to the police department who then were required to refer it to animal control.
Now with Dusty's Law, someone who assaults or kills a guide animal, or that allows an animal in their custody to do so, is guilty of a fourth-degree crime. Meaning that if the person is found guilty they are subject to a maximum of 18 months behind bars, a $10,000 fine, or both!!

Dog Fighting "Event" in Georgia Raided by Police Helicopters
34 arrested at what authorities are calling a highly organized dog fight! They even offered food, there was a food truck at the scene ! The authorities found two Pit Bulls inside a large fighting pit, one was injured and bleeding still inside. Animal Control Officer Beth Miller took the dogs into protective custody, and a vet is treating the injured dog with antibiotics. According to Times-Herald.com, one dog is eating again and even gave the vet some kisses. Great work of the Georgia Police!

All too often, I read or see stories of dogs getting stolen! Many of them are pit bulls and it's unfortunate because usually they are being taken by people that are involved in the dog fighting rings . These Pit Bulls, someone's beloved pet, now just became a bait dog! Bait dog for another trained fighting dog to attack and fight until death or close to death!
Once they are either dead or to badly injured and no use to the dog fighters they are throw out them out like a piece of trash to suffer alone & in pain to their death!
This disgust me and anything I can post to prevent this from happening I will.
Hopefully theses tips I found will help keep your pup and shelter pups safe!

Recognizing & Treating canine Hypothermia
Some dogs love to be out in the snow. Some dogs are made for the cold winter weather , they have coats protect them , and they were born into the frigid climates. However , there are many dogs who want to play out side in the chilling winter climates regardless of their coats or what breed they happen to be. Therefore we must be the responsible ones and make sure that our pets are prepared!

Weighing in on retractable dog leashes
Personally, I don't use one, and in my opinion, I probably wouldn't recommend a retractable dog leash to anyone, especially someone with a larger breed of dog. My pit bull broke his as a puppy and for a few brief moments he was on the loose, in that short amount of time, a number of things could have happened. He could have darted out onto the main road, got lost, hurt , found some kind of trouble or ate something poisonous! Luckily ,none of those things happened but after that experience, I never used a retractable leash again.
The more I thought about retractable dog leashes, the more I kept finding reasons why they were not the right leash for me. I enjoy having more control over my dog when we walk on a standard dog leash. In my opinion, it creates more of a bond to walk side by side, the dog respects you. He looks to you so you know hes paying attention to you, and he listens for praise or command. A standard leash is sturdier and has less of a chance of somehow malfunctioning !
