Dog Fighting "Event" in Georgia Raided by Police Helicopters

34 arrested at what authorities are calling a highly organized dog fight! They even offered food, there was a food truck at the scene ! The authorities found two Pit Bulls inside a large fighting pit, one was injured and bleeding still inside.  Animal Control Officer Beth Miller took the dogs into protective custody, and a vet is treating the injured dog with antibiotics. According to Times-Herald.com, one dog is eating again and even gave the vet some kisses. Great work of the Georgia Police!

All too often, I read or see stories of dogs getting stolen! Many of them are pit bulls and it's unfortunate because usually they are being taken by people that are involved in the dog fighting rings . These Pit Bulls, someone's beloved pet, now just became a bait dog! Bait dog for another trained fighting dog to attack and fight until death or close to death!

Once they are either dead or to badly injured and no use to the dog fighters they are throw out them out like a piece of trash to suffer alone & in pain to their death!

This disgust me and anything I can post to prevent this from happening I will.

Weighing in on retractable dog leashes

Personally, I don't use one, and in my opinion, I probably wouldn't recommend a retractable dog leash to anyone, especially someone with a larger breed of dog.  My pit bull broke his as a puppy and for a few brief moments he was on the loose, in that short amount of time, a number of things could have happened. He could have darted out onto the main road, got lost,  hurt , found some kind of trouble or ate something poisonous! Luckily ,none of those things happened but after that experience, I never used a retractable leash again.

The more I thought about retractable dog leashes, the more I kept finding reasons why they were not the right leash for me.  I enjoy having more control over my dog when we walk on a standard dog leash. In my opinion,  it creates more of a bond to  walk side by side, the dog respects you. He looks to you so you know hes paying attention to you, and he listens for praise or command.  A standard leash is sturdier and has less of a chance of somehow malfunctioning !
